Fire Safety Tips

The following brief fire safety checklist can help you prevent fires:

  1. It is recommended to install smoke detectors on every floor. Suitable locations include the ceiling, stairwells, bedrooms, and living rooms.
  2. Ensure there are at least two emergency escape routes from every room, and that all occupants are familiar with and have practised using them.
  3. Never smoke while lying in bed, especially if you are feeling drowsy, under the influence of alcohol, or after taking medication that may cause drowsiness.
  4. Use a large, sturdy ashtray and ensure cigarette butts are completely extinguished before disposal.
  5. Avoid overloading electrical circuits or using unsafe electrical extensions and connections.
  6. Keep matches and lighters in a secure place out of the reach of children.
  7. Store containers of flammable liquids in a safe location, away from heat sources and out of the reach of children.
  8. Never leave burning candles unattended, even for a short time, and always keep them away from children.
  9. It is recommended to keep at least one dry powder or gas-type fire extinguisher at home.
